Shoppe Diaries: New Arrivals Day (aka Chaos Day)

There are two kinds of days at the shoppe.

Normal days… and New Arrivals Day.

If you know, you know.

New Arrivals Day starts innocent enough. Coffee in hand, doors unlocked, a quick little “today’s going to be productive” mindset. We might even say things like, “Let’s stay organized today.”

Cute. Very cute of us.

Because then the boxes arrive.

And everything changes.

Suddenly it’s cardboard everywhere, scissors mysteriously missing, packing slips flying around, and someone (usually me) saying, “Okay wait, don’t open that one yet—I think that’s the good one.”

There is no calm unpacking process. There is only controlled chaos and the constant question of, “Wait… did we order this or is this a surprise for us too?”

We open boxes like it’s a live event. Every new piece gets held up, debated, immediately imagined on a customer we saw last week. There’s a lot of “Oh my gosh this is SO her,” and “Okay this is going on the mannequin immediately,” and at least one moment of, “We need this in every color or I’m going to think about it forever.”

The racks somehow fill up faster than we can steam anything. And yet somehow, we convince ourselves we’re being efficient.

We are not.

We are just excited.

There’s also the quiet battle of restraint that happens on New Arrivals Day. Because yes, I own the shoppe… but no, I cannot keep everything. (I say this out loud like it helps.)

You’ll hear things like:
“I’m just going to try it on for ‘research.’”
“I need to see how it looks on a real body… mine.”
“This is technically for the store, but also… hypothetically…”

And then suddenly half the team is standing in mirrors deciding which piece they’d wear first if they were going somewhere literally anywhere that evening.

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, the shoppe starts to transform. Empty racks become styled displays. Boxes disappear. Music gets turned up a little louder. And the energy shifts from chaos… to magic.

Because this is the part we love most.

Seeing it all come together.

Seeing a piece go from a folded item in a box to someone’s “I got so many compliments on this outfit.”

That never gets old.

And yes, New Arrivals Day is messy. It’s loud. It’s slightly unhinged. There are hangers everywhere and at least one moment where someone asks, “Where did I put my scissors?” while holding them.

But it’s also our favorite kind of day.

Because it means new stories are about to walk out the door.

New brunches. New vacays. New parties. New “I just needed something cute” moments that turn into confidence boosts we didn’t even know were coming.

So if you ever stop in on a New Arrivals Day and it feels a little chaotic…

That’s because it is. But it’s the kind of chaos we wouldn’t trade for anything.

Until next time,
